Have you ever baked a cake in the Varoma Thermomix Varoma? Actually, it should be called: steamed ;-) However, the result is the same: a delicious Varoma cake (in this case banana chocolate cake) that remains particularly moist thanks to the steam cooking.
Incidentally, we find it particularly practical when baking in the Varoma that you can also prepare a smaller cake without filling the oven. Then, for example, the main dish (delicious lasagne, casseroles, roasts) can be in the oven and the Thermomix bakes the cake for dessert.
Ingredients for the Varoma cake from the Thermomix:
- 200ml buttermilk
- 170g mascobado (raw cane sugar)
- 1 egg, size M
- 40ml sunflower oil
- 250g spelt flour, type 630
- 50g walnuts, chopped
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 75g chocolate drops
- 250g banana, mashed with a fork (weight including peel)
- some soft butter to grease the mold
Preparation:
1. First put the sugar, oil, buttermilk and egg into the mixing bowl and mix for 10 seconds on speed 5. Then add the remaining ingredients and mix for 15 seconds on speed 3.
2. The finished batter can now be poured into the previously greased and floured springform pan (we used our Springform pan for Varoma used for this). To ensure that baking in the Varoma works, cling film must be stretched over the Varoma springform pan and ideally secured with a household rubber band. When everything is ready, pour 1.5 liters of water into the clean mixing bowl. Place the lid and Varoma on top, place the springform pan inside, close with the Varoma lid and cook the Varoma cake for 75 minutes on the Varoma setting and level 1 in the Thermomix cook.
At the end, take the Varoma cake out, remove the foil and leave to cool slightly. It is best to turn it out while still lukewarm and then enjoy. But the Varoma cake also tastes great cold. And even if it is unlikely that there will be any leftovers: you can serve the cake from the Thermomix freeze and defrost again.
Baking in the Varoma can be so easy - have fun mixing it up! :-)
